Hermann's tortoises usually eat dandelions, clover, honeysuckle, leafy salads, brussels sprouts, spring vegetables, coriander, parsley, rocket, carrots, yams, courgettes, watercress, curly kale, and peppers. Hermann's tortoise should not eat spinach because spinach can cause severe distress to the tortoise.

Hermann's tortoise is a land tortoise species whose population is declining. This type of tortoise tends to be more passive and does not bite. However, it may bite when it feels disturbed or threatened. In spring and fall, this slow animal will be more active, ranging from interacting, looking for food, and also sunbathing.
